First up, can you tell us a bit about your career/life background that led you to start gaming.tools?

Since childhood, I was always fascinated with computers. I’ve been playing games for almost 40 years now and coding for maybe 35 or so years. Development is my career and hobby at the same time. I’ve worked as a developer and later as a software architect and development lead for many, many years, until recently, I quit my day job and started working on gaming.tools full-time.

What drove you to create gaming.tools? Did you see a specific gap in the market? Was there a particular insight that motivated you to launch it?

It all started as a hobby for me. I was playing a game, GoTWiC, and decided to build a simple web tool for it; I needed a domain, and that's when I founded gaming.tools. Later, when New World was released, I built the profession leveling guides site, and that became an instant hit. The creator of NWDB suggested that I monetize it and got me in touch with Nitro. I was amazed at the outcome, leading me to consider doing this for the long run.

How long have you been running your website and how long did it take from development until it was live?

I think the site for New World took me around 3 weeks from beginning till launch. When you're solo and not constrained by corporate policies, things tend to move much faster.

How did you decide on the specific features and tools available on gaming.tools?

I usually look at it from my own perspective, figuring out what I need, and developing it. It usually changes and evolves per game, depending on many factors. I mostly yolo it, without a specific plan.

How were you able to build a strong online presence for the website? (e.g. SEO, forums, PPC, influencers etc)

From an SEO perspective, I have a lot of experience, so I had no problems. Of course, I’ve learned a lot of new things through this journey. I haven’t done anything particular except occasional Reddit posts about my site, it mostly took off by itself.

What have been some of the most effective tactics to drive traffic to your website so far?

Content is the king! Build something which is useful and needed, and people will come.

What are you most proud of in regards to the success of gaming.tools so far? Any major highlights?

It's hard to pinpoint on a specific aspect, I'm proud of the entire thing.

What advice do you have for new and existing website owners that you wish you knew before you started?

Pick your games carefully, especially if you are doing it solo. Make sure you build something which is appropriate for the genre, and most importantly, needed by the players.

What do you like best about being a part of Nitro’s network of premium gaming/entertainment websites?

Nitro is the best. The team is incredibly supportive. I cannot imagine a better partner.

What’s next for gaming.tools?

The focus is to keep expanding and building resources for gamers with more sites!
